Virginia: Red Drum, Cobia, AND Sheepshead

There has been a lot of wind in Virginia the last two years and it's made saltwater fishing tough to come by. After postponing our initial trip, the weather finally cooperated to go out with my friends Travis and John of Foolproof Fishing. The heat index was around 100 degrees with no wind, but luckily the fishing was just as hot.
Travis and I are big into red drum, so we started the day off right with some nice drum, including a 51-inch, 46-pound citation for my third fish of the day! Travis was set on my getting the Chesapeake Bay Slam [citation red drum, citation cobia, and citation sheepshead all in one day], so we set off for cobia. We got into a few at a different spot before I landed a 50-inch, 51-pound red drum citation! I was psyched and would've been content with that, but Travis was determined. We kept after the cobia until I got the one we were looking for: a 52-inch release citation. Two down and one to go, so we switched gears completely and went after sheepshead. That was a much tougher bite, but Travis pulled it off in the bottom of the ninth with a 24-inch citation! The Chesapeake Bay slam was complete! My first ever. I was especially happy because there has only been one other year in which I caught citations in all three species, and this happened in one day. I can't say enough good things about fishing with Travis and John, and the results sure speak for themselves.
